The ATSS is used to provide crucial driver training realism for police, fire, EMS, accident avoidance, teen, executive protection, security, fleet, and military driver training programs. The ATSS is a software upgrade-able system that allows agencies and organizations to train drivers in critical accident avoidance skills. The system's design and portability means any organization can teach these skills in parking lots or on a designated driver training track. With industry-exclusive Adaptive Reaction Time instructors can now teach to a reaction time standard, regardless of the speed of the vehicles.
The ATSS currently has the following instructional modes:
- Emergency Braking
- Emergency Lane Change (aka Swerve to Avoid, Accident Avoidance)
- Emergency Lane Decision (Like Emergency Lane Change but with added decision making demands)
- Intersection Clearing
For small agencies who need to maximize the utility of their budgets the ATSS can also be used as a traffic counter for roadway surveys. More features like speed surveys and lap timing are in development and will be released in future software versions.
The ATSS is battery operated, rechargeable, weather resistant, and has wireless sensors that don't require cables or hoses that must be stretch across the training course. Physical setup requires just a few minutes and once you set the training mode, operation is completely automatic, freeing up instructors to teach students not babysit equipment. A simple menu-driven interface provides access to all the ATSS training modes. No additional computers or phone apps are required to operate the system. Once the training mode is set the ATSS needs no human intervention - simply place the controller in a safe location and leave it!
Despite the relatively small size of the lights, they are incredibly bright. The standard ATSS lights are easily visible from several hundred feet away in broad daylight. An optional "high-power" version of the lights is also available that doubles the number of LEDs in each light housing. The ATSS lights can be placed directly on the ground, with no need to use tripods; however, for those agencies who wish to use them tripods and an adapter kit is available. For more permanent installations an overhead scaffold system can be custom-ordered.
The Infrared sensor for the ATSS can be placed up to 100-feet away from the Infrared Sender and can be operated in full sunlight. This ensures ATSS equipment is a safe distance away from your course exercise area, virtually eliminating collisions with ATSS hardware. It also means you can use the full width of your existing track facilities without having to restrict your course size to accommodate limited-range equipment.
For customers who travel with their ATSS you will have piece of mind knowing that the Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries used in the ATSS have a proven track record of safety. Unlike devices with Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries, the ATSS can be transported as checked baggage on any major transportation provider. Additionally, they can be safely charged and stored indoors without the need for specialized fireproof charging/storage bags. At the end of the batteries' lifecycle they can be recycled at your local battery store. In the unlikely event that a battery failure occurs, the inexpensive ATSS batteries can be purchased at any battery store or most major hardware stores.
The standard system comes with a ruggedized case with wheels and can be transported easily. The simple design of the system means that all generations of ATSS are compatible with the latest version of software. So customers with first through fourth generation systems will be able to upgrade to the newest features without having to buy or replace additional hardware. Backwards hardware compatibility means that customers wishing to upgrade their controller to the latest version can retain all other hardware.
